Network Program a First-Year Success

Last October, the Kean University Alumni Association launched new programs aimed at enhancing the connections between alumni.  Consisting of three career network events, along with new online tools, the Kean Career Network has formally and successfully taken shape.

This year wraps up three successful network nights for alumni of different interests; Accounting, Design and a topical event about “America’s Subprime Crisis and Credit Crunch.”.  Combined attendance for these events has reached almost 200 alumni.  For many attendees, this was a reintroduction to Kean, and a first glance at the tremendous changes that have taken place in the last several years.

“I had a great time and really appreciate all of the hard work [the Alumni Association] put into organizing the event,” said Casey Alseika ’93, a guest speaker for the Accounting network event.  In addition to connecting or renewing connections, the network events have also served to showcase alumni success.  From banks to federal government to corporate recruiting, Kean alumni have risen to heights in every profession to which they apply their talents.

The recently launched alumni community, myKean, has a big part in this success.  “Online pre-registration has allowed us to increase the scale and timing of all our events,” said Michael Smullen, assistant director in the alumni relations office.  “But more importantly, alumni can now update their resumes and search for business contacts with other alumni in addition to updating personal information, searching through alumni notes, event and personal photos, and all the other available tools.”
