Kean Grad Explains Communication in Human Resources Field

Michael Delicio, human resources director of Pfizer’s Legal Division, visited campus on February 27 to speak to students about communication careers in human resources. In a highly informative, dynamic and engaging style, Delicio explored the various facets of human resources, which he defined as the strategic management of human capital. He then discussed the nature of communication within the industry, including during times of organizational crises, as well as the steps necessary for organizations to improve their communication practices. “Communication is a tool that empowers you and engages you in the organization,” he said.

He further explained the key elements of a communication plan, adding that it should be honest, frequent and consistent. “Clear and credible communication is vital to any organization,” he said. “Without it, you can’t have a functioning organization.”

Yuan was impressed with Delicio’s presentation, noting how he blended his lesson with examples from his professional experience. “He constantly invited questions from students and related his points to students’ examples,” she said.

According to Yuan, the Communication Club plans to bring guest speakers to Kean several times each semester to discuss communication related practices and career opportunities. The group aims to promote communication studies and better prepare communication students for the job market.
