Alumni Network Program Expands
Communications, Design and Marketing Alumni Network Event
The Career Network Event Series, sponsored by the Kean University Alumni Association, has formally taken off. The first series event for accounting professionals took place in November of 2007, and over 50 attendees contributed to its success. Professors, students and alumni who are interested or involved in the accounting field came to hear successful alums describe their experiences and tips for success and to network with fellow alumni and classmates.

Next in the Career Network Event Series is an alumni presentation and reception at the Thinking Creatively Conference at Kean University on April 4, 2008, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Conference is a world-class gathering for design, marketing, and communication professionals and is hosted at Kean in conjunction with the Art Directors Club of New Jersey and the Kean University Design Department.
Presenters at the Conference include James Montalbano, Typographer & Designer, at Terminal Design and a 1975 graduate of Kean University (Newark State Teachers College); Moira Cullen, Design Director of Coca-Cola; Brad Jakeman, former Director of Global Marketing at Citigroup; Allan Haley, Director of Words and Letters at Monotype Imaging; and Peter Leeds, Global Head of Creative Services, Reuters.
James Montalbano is particularly distinguished by his work on the Clearview typeface, a font used throughout the federal highway system. His work was well documented in an August 12, 2007 New York Times article titled “The Road to Clarity”.
The professional networking reception for Kean alumni working or interested in design, marketing or communications follows James’ presentation.

Get Involved
You can help plan future Career Network events by volunteering for the Alumni Association Career Network & Mentoring Committee. You will join a committed group of volunteers, including Kean faculty, students and alumni. Committee members work with the Alumni Relations office to analyze constituency data, structure programs that meet the needs of Kean alumni, and reach out to fellow alums to build and strengthen the initiative.
Your involvement makes you a partner in creating a stronger network of Kean alumni and increasing the value of your own degree.
If you are interested in volunteering, call Assistant Director Michael Smullen at (908) 737-3482 or email msmullen@kean.edu.
